Paying Tax? – HMRC close all Bank of England accounts

If you have been paying HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) any type of tax using Bank of England sort codes and account numbers, you will need to change bank account details immdiately.

With effect from 9 August 2011, you will no longer be able to use the Bank of England accounts. Any payments directed to Bank of England accounts after this date will be rejected automatically by the banking system and returned to your bank.

This will result in a delay in getting your payment to the correct account and carries with it the risk of you incurring late payment penalties and interest if your payment does not reach the correct account by the payment due date.

To ensure that your payment reaches your record without delay, it is essential that you use the correct bank account information.
